What if young athletes didn't fear screwing up?

Don Mattingly says he didn't fear failure in youth sports. How?

In this emotional video, the American baseball coach reflects, "I don't ever remember getting criticized by my dad for a bad play."

Mattingly didn't get much praise either. But this fostered something almost unimaginable for most youth sports players.

"I had zero fear of screwing up," he says.

Can you imagine that? A young athlete with zero fear of failure! He puts this down to his parents' approach to spectating.

"I had zero fear of screwing up," he says. "Because I never got criticised."

“That lack of fear of screwing up allows you to just grow and get better. To take chances. Not be afraid to make a mistake. Just work, learn from it and move on.”

This was a recipe for success for a young Don Mattingly.
